Repairing Angel WAll 2022

The Angel wall.... after damage to the underlying wall 40% had to be taken off, re rendered and painted again.

Four of the original artist: Janine, Lee, Terry and Shirley did the restoration, matching into the original and adding some extra pieces.......One of these was "From us, as artists to all artists now suffering in Ukraine".

WW1 anti war mural - started 2014

...."A tribute to WW1 artists from all lands" painted by Shirley in 2014. Many artists died, some survived but all showed and wrote of the horrors that all suffered. Some of their paintings have been reproduced on these panels.

The Artists works in the left panel are reproduced from paintings by artists who died in the war, those in the right survived and many like Otto Dix painted the aftermath.

The top panel of children playing on the beaches with the ghosts of the soldiers passing above was as a result of photos I saw when researching, of German children making and flying kites made of Deutschmarks, because the mark was so worthless after the war it was cheaper to use them than buy paper. It was also cheaper to burn them than buy firewood.

The last panels on the door remain blank and the surrounds to be completed

From my grandfathers Diary, who was a stretcher bearer in the middle east during ww1

In 2005 we received a millennium award for the creating of Blands Cliff Murals.
Each artist who painted the lower two walls received a minimal payment of £500 for months of hard work, but with sponsorship from SBC and The Arts Council at least all the paints and rendering could be paid for.

As these Murals are photographed and enjoyed by thousands. THAT is our reward.
